Tourism and Religion in Senaru Village
Lombok is renowned for its beaches: but the island also boasts many other places of interest. One of these is Senaru village, in the north of Lombok. Thanks to its location on the slopes of Mt Rinjani, visitors are drawn to Senaru’s natural beauty and magnificent panoramas. With its lush green ricefields, mountain views and cool, clear air, Senaru is a truly feast for the senses. This is the place from which to start the trek up the world-famous volcano. As a result, Senaru village hosts a steady stream of tourists, both local and foreign.
In North Lombok, places of interest and splendid scenery lie waiting for you around every corner. Not far from Senaru, you can visit the old Bayan Beleq mosque, and the Sindang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls.
Tua Bayan Mosque, more commonly known as Bayan Beleq Mosque, is a historic place of worship dating back to the 17th century. After 300 years since its construction, the well-preserved mosque is still used by the Sasak Wetu Telu people for religious cermonies (in parts of North Lombok, traditional beliefs are still practiced by some communities).
Good access by road and the enchanting views make Senaru an increasingly popular destination, not only for travelers and hikers, but also for cyclists. Experiencing the natural beauty of the surrounding area and inhaling the pure mountain air is sure to make any cycling trip through the region an unforgettable one.
