Gembira Loka Zoo
Gembira Loka Zoo islocated in Gajah Wong river basin. The zoo is easily accessible by various means of transportation.
Gembira Loka Zoo houses an expansive wildlife collection. In the beginning, it started from the leopards captured by local resident, as they were disturbing the village, and others came from the slopes of Mountain Merapi as the forest was burned down by the heat clouds.
At Gembira Loka, children are not only being introduced to the wildlife world but also have the opportunity to play closer with the animals. Animal show is open for public every Monday-Friday (11.00-13.00), Saturday (11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00), and Sunday (10.00, 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00). Elephant attraction is available every Sunday and holiday, Elephant Ride is available everyday on 09.00-16.00, and Camel Ride is also available every day from 09.00-16.00. Visitors can watch the animals during their feeding time, such as chimpanzees (feeding time at 11.00), tigers (feeding time at 11.30), and snakes (feeding time at 12.00).
