Sasana Wiratama Museum or what iswidely known as Dipenogoro Museum is located on Jalan HOS Cokroaminoto TRIII/430, Tegalrejo, Yogyakarta. The museum is the former residence of Prince Diponegoro. The residence is a “joglo” built in traditional Javanese style architecture, with “pendopo” and “pringgitan”. Prince Dipenogoro is one of Indonesia’s national heroes who fought against the Dutch colonial rule from 1825 – 1830.
The museum has historical items starting from traditional weapons such as “Kris” (Keris), spear, sword, arrow, and many other items. The highlight of the collection is the perforated/broken wall (jebol) which was used as the escape route of Prince Diponegoro during the time he was besieged by the Dutch. There are also historical items of Sri Hamengku Buwono II such as “ketipung”(small drum), and wilahan bonang penembung, a musical instrument made of wood and red and yellow bronze. In the east and front of the pendopo, you will find two cannons, as well as household equipment such as a place for “siri”,” canting”, teapot, and “bokor” (large basin).
The Museum opens on Monday-Saturday, starting from 08.00-13.00.The place is worth to visit as it will benefit both adults and young children to gain knowledge and insignt on our national heroes.
