Monumen Jogja Kembali Museum

Many students visit the Monumen Jogja Kembali Museumlocated in the north of Jogja. The museum, managed by the Culture and Tourism Department, is a historical museum which depict Indonesian struggle for independence.

The museum was established to commemorate the “Attack of March 1st” that took place in 1949 and is widely known as “the Six Hours in Jogja.

The monument has three floors and houses a library and a multipurpose room. The first floor consists of a museum, a library, an auditorium, and a cafeteria. In the second floor there are 10 dioramas displaying Jogjakarta’s struggle for Indonesia’s independence from December 1948 until July 1949.  The third floor, which is the uppermost floor, is a round quiet room equipped by a flag pole with the red and white flag on it at the centre of the room, and relief of a fist on the west wall, symbolising physical and diplomacy struggle on the east wall. The Garbha Graha room functions as a place to say prayers for the heroes and remember their struggle.  

The stairs leading to the second floor at the outdoor wall that circles the building that is carved with 40 reliefs picturing the struggle of Indonesian nation from 17 August 1945 until it won the international recognition as republic on 27 December 1949.
